Incredible, FREE, education YouTube video in VR. I've never experienced anything like this before.
How could we start creating VR Films? How the hell did they pull this off?
This is definitely something we should show the history department. "We need to drag the past forward, in 360 degrees."
It's blending theater and film. Collaborate with the theater department to pull this off.
Each "cut" is actually a scene change.
They were doing 360 storyboarding
What the f***! I didn't even realize that this needs 3D audio!
It also needs 3D photoshop, blood effects, 3D CGI. This is why we need game engines...
360 VR Filmmaking
Discovery channel in VR!
"You may say, well 'This costs many thousands of dollars. It's going to be too expensive for most of the community to just dabble and experiment with. But if we don't get a chance to dabble and experiment with it, a terrible thing happens. We don't do anything new. We don't learn anything new. We don't develop anything new. These new skills and literacies will allow us to operate in tomorrows world."
"We don't work so much with text in the digital age. We work with sound and video. We verbally communicate."
"We're trying to create a model that can be replicated. This is bigger than Wheeler. If other schools can't get VR labs, then we can't collaborate with them in VR. Consider this the Tesla Model S as we work to design the Tesla Model 3. Our job title should be the Wheeler Bubble Permeators."
"Ultimately, it's about learning outcomes."
Use Cases
Sports Reviews (360 Film + VR)
Athletes can watch their footage in 360 VR and improve. Just like the Dallas Cowboys.
Campus Tours (360 Film + VR)
We will have cheaper headsets that can be CHECK OUT from the lab, just like a library.
Untethered, accessible to all (without powerful computers)
Google Cardboard, etc..
We could RENT the lab out in the summer. We will selectively open it for tours, much like Brown.
